The Charlestown Working Theater and the Artists Group of Charlestown will team up to present a unique evening of the arts in Charlestown November 6th and 7th.

That's opening weekend for the final performances of CWT's critically acclaimed adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey, which will run November 6th 21st. To celebrate the opening,CWT is working with the ACG to allow audiences to attend an exclusive preperformance exhibition opening hosted by the ACG at their Stove Factory Gallery at 523 Medford Street. AGC artists will be present to discuss their work. Doors will open at 6:00pm, and refreshments will be served. Then audience members will cross the street and see The Odyssey at 8pm, and attend a post performance reception with live music by Marji Gere and Dan Sedgwick. "We are really excited to work with the Artists Group in this way. It's an opportunity to feature the artistic work being created in Charlestown, to introduce new comers? to the CWT and ACG, and to engage with neighbors and friends in a cultural way."

The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer's epic poem for two people traveling together in a small boat, sailing across a half real, half imaginary landscape. "We felt that ultimately the story of "The Odyssey" was the story of two people, Odysseus and Penelope, trying to remember and return to each other. In the performance we are literally in a boat, a fifteen foot row boat" says JohnPeitso, cocreator of the performance. Johnson and Peitso retell this tale of exile and return in fragments, using original and adapted music, text, image, and physicality "It's an adventure but it is also the intimate story of return that is as immediate today as it was thousands of years ago"continues Johnson.
