Boston's 'First Lady Of Cabaret' Carol O'Shaughnessy To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award From Provincetown CabaretFest Image

Provincetown CabaretFest 2018 will proudly honor Carol O'Shaughnessy for her many years in the world of cabaret with special recognition of her contributions to the New England cabaret scene. Her career as a performer spans nearly forty-five years, with thirty of those years spent as a cabaret performer.

O'Shaughnessy began her long career in early Provincetown club spots, including The Pilgrim House and The Post Office Cabaret. Her one-woman show "Stuff in the Box...Provincetown The Early Years" is an homage to those beginnings and her show "Ring-a-Ding-Ding: The Music of the Rat Pack" is a perfect match to the 1950s theme of this year's CabaretFest.

Both shows have won IRNE (Independent Reviewers of New England) awards in the Top Ten Best Cabaret Show category. Her award-winning work is seen frequently in the cabaret clubs of Boston and New York City and critics praise her vocals as both poignant and powerful.

CabaretFest Producer Patricia Fitzpatrick remembers how influential O'Shaughnessy has been for the students in previous master classes. "I never knew what cabaret truly was, until I attended a class led by Carol at the very first Provincetown CabaretFest. With her take on cabaret, a whole new world opened up to me," recalls Fitzpatrick.

Conducting master classes about the art of cabaret is important to O'Shaughnessy. She believes that "teaching cabaret performance, or for that matter any subject, is a two-way street. The 'master' learns from the student. I LOVE finding the potential each person has and I try to bring it to the forefront. I am very grateful and humbled to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award as there are many others who are deserving this special award. I cannot thank the committee enough! I might also need to thank Phyllis Schlossberg for inviting me to work at the Post Office Cabaret in 1980-81. Without her, I would not have had a Cabaret life!"

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given during the weekend festival, which offers performance workshops and numerous live performances at Provincetown venues, including the stages of The Crown and Anchor Hotel and the retro-hip lounge of The Harbor Hotel. A special VIP Pass allows entry to every show and to additional private parties.

All tickets are available through The Crown and Anchor website: www.onlyatthecrown.com. Complete festival information can be found at: www.provincetowncabaretfest.com and the Facebook page Provincetown CabaretFest.
