Boston University Tanglewood Institute Sets 50th Anniversary Events

Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI)-one of the premiere summer training programs for aspiring high school and early college-age musicians-announced details about its 50th Anniversary events scheduled for August 6.

The highlight of the day's activities is the dazzling concert at 2:30pm which will celebrate the legacy and future of BUTI. Emceed by Emmy Award nomineeLauren Ambrose (BUTI '94, '95), the concert will showcase students and faculty from BUTI's Young Artists Programs, alumni guest artists from across the country, and new compositions commissioned specially for this concert from alumni Nico Muhly (BUTI '96, '97) and Timo Andres (BUTI '00, '01). Proceeds from this concert will benefit Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

The 2016 BUTI summer season, which is taking place at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA, June 20-August 13, features expanded concert programming; a new Opera Intensive featuring two full-length performances of Die Fledermaus; a 50th Anniversary Celebration Concert highlighting alumni and featuring new commissions; a new Visiting Artist Residency Program with composer Nico Muhly and pianist Simone Dinnerstein (BUTI '86, '87); workshops led by distinguished performers and teachers from Boston University and the Boston Symphony Orchestra including new workshops in violin, viola, and cello; and rich programs of learning and performance. Led by Executive Director Hilary Field Respass, BUTI is the only program of its kind associated with one of the world's great symphony orchestras, the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

12:45pm: Alumni Panel Discussion, "Changing Lives, Influencing the World" including Alyson Cambridge (BUTI '96; soprano), Seth Johnson (BUTI '71; Director at bebe), Amy Matthews (BUTI '90; HGTV star of Sweat Equity), Jonathan Palant (BUTI '90; conductor and founder of the Dallas Street Choir),Lucas Richman (BUTI '79, '80; conductor and composer) and Sarah Whitney (BUTI '99; violinist) | Moderated by longtime BUTI Executive & Artistic DirectorPhyllis Hoffman (CFA '61, '67), the panel will discuss their BUTI experience and how the values and principles they learned during their time as BUTI students affected their professional careers | Koussevitzky Shell, BUTI Campus, 45 West Street, Lenox, MA | Free
