Boston Gay Men's Chorus (BGMC) will present "Brass & Bows & Boys," a holiday concert that will be loud, proud, tender, and warm. Performances are on Dec. 1 as part of Holly Folly in Provincetown, and on Dec. 9, 14, 15, and 16 at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall in Boston.
The title of the show comes from the opening piece "Holiday Bells, Brass and Boys," which features a medley of some of the best known holiday carols and was written by BGMC member David Shaffer. The second half features the parody "Santa's Turn" by BGMC member Jay Baer, and the concert ends with the holiday medley "Pictures of a Season" by BGMC Principal Accompanist and Assistant Music Director Chad Weirick, who is marking his 25th year with BGMC this year.
"We'll showcase the traditional songs of the season along with modern classics, but we have so much musical talent in the Chorus we wanted to take advantage of that by performing songs by our members," said BGMC Music Director Reuben M. Reynolds, III. "Given that the holiday season is about celebrating our families, both those we come into the world with and those we've chosen as adults, it seems appropriate-and audiences are going to love it."
In "Brass & Boys & Boys" BGMC will be accompanied by an eight-piece orchestra. Audiences will be treated to cherished carols such as "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," and "In the Bleak Midwinter," classic holiday pop like "Let It Snow," and modern favorites including Sara Bareilles' "Love Is Christmas (The Christmas Song)," "L'Dor Vador" by Jewish music artist Josh Nelson and "The Night Before Christmas," a song popularized by Christian recording artist Brandon Heath.
"This is a show that will infuse people of all ages and beliefs with the holiday spirit," said BGMC Executive Director Craig Coogan. "Brass & Bows & Boys celebrates homecoming, reflection, and family and we can't wait to take the stage!"
