Boston Children's Theatre's opening show of the 2017-2018 season is sure to give you goosebumps. Based on the popular Scholastic children's book series, BCT is proud to bring the New England Premiere of Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium to the Larcom Theatre in Beverly, MA this fall. Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium was commissioned by Oregon Children's Theatre and then adapted for the stage in 2016.
"We are thrilled to present this New England Premiere," Executive Director and Producer Toby Schine shared. "The Goosebumps series is known by children all over the world. To be one of the first theatres to produce this new musical is very exciting."
Since the release of its first novel, Goosebumps has sold over 350 million books worldwide and has been translated in 32 languages. These children's horror fiction novellas by R.L. Stine follow characters that find themselves in various scary situations.
Phantom of the Auditorium is the twenty-fourth book in the original Goosebumps series and was also an episode on the popular Goosebumps television series. Phantom of the Auditorium tells the story of two children, Brooke and Zeke, who have been cast as the leads in the school's new production about a...Phantom. Strange things start disrupting rehearsals and they have to wonder: Is this someone's idea of a joke? Or is the Phantom real? Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium is a silly and spooky adventure that will keep the whole family in suspense until the final curtain.
"I am always proud of the eclectic programming that Boston Children's Theatre brings to the families of our community," Director Emily Grove said. "To do a new musical that is based on the popular Goosebumps series around Halloween is just icing on the cake. And of course parents will enjoy the nod to Phantom of the Opera."
Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium performs at the Larcom Theatre in Beverly, MA from October 20 through November 5. For tickets or more information, visit www.bostonchildrenstheatre.org.
