Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops will kick off its 2009 season at Symphony Hall with a gala concert on May 6 and 7 featuring Tony Award winner Barbara Cook. Lockhart is celebrating his 15th season as conductor with the Pops.

Press notes state, "Opening Night on May 6 will include a festive pre-concert reception. Both nights will feature Ms. Cook's silvery soprano, purity of tone, and warm presence which has delighted audiences around the world for more than 50 years".

Tony winner and theatre legend Barbara Cook new CD, Rainbow 'Round My Shoulder, which was released by DRG Records, is the singer's 14th release by the label. The recording features performances of songs by such theatre mainstays as Stephen Sondheim, Rodgers & Hart and Leonard Bernstein, as well as songs by Ray Charles, John Bucchino and Peter Allen.

Last year she celebrated her 80th birthday with three sold-out concerts at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic and in June made her debut with London's English National Ballet as the vocalist for the company's new program of works set to the music of George Gershwin.
