The Cape Cod Theatre Company, home of the Harwich Junior Theatre, is pleased to bring Ernest Thompson's beloved 1979 play On Golden Pond to its stage as the first show of its anticipated fall season. Thompson's play, which was made into the well-known 1981 movie starring Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn, will run as a CCTC main-stage production from September 16th thru October 9th, under the direction of Susan Kosoff.
On Golden Pond tells the incredibly touching story of Norman and Ethel Thayer, an aging couple who have been making a summer pilgrimage to Golden Pond for well over four decades and, with each summer spent there, continue to enjoy the simplicity of catching fish, reading books and most importantly, enjoying the joy of each other's company. With this simple existence does Norman, a rather sarcastic retired professor, becomes anxious this particular summer to exert his place in a world that he jokes will soon go on without him, all the while knowing that his "borrowed time" will indeed eventually run out. With the arrival of his estranged daughter Chelsea, her new love interest and his teenage son, the Thayers are shown the true value of their mortality, the importance of forgiveness and most beautiful of all, the power of love that never truly disappears no matter how old we all will inevitably become.
Paul Widegren as Norman, Jane Staab as Ethel, Paul Schuyler as Charlie, Jane Schuyler as Chelsea, David Wallace as Bill and Wil Moser as Billy form a wonderful cast that breathes new life into this production that is bound to make quite the impression in so, so many ways. With a gorgeous set that will ease the audience's transition into the world of Golden Pond and set the perfect mood for this world to come to vibrant life, Golden Pond will not only manifest as a location in Maine but, as everyone will discover, as a place which exists in everyone's heart: that of love.
On Golden Pond will begin performances at the Cape Cod Theatre Company (located at 105 Division Street at the border of West Harwich and Dennis) on September 16th. Tickets are $25 ($15 for those under 21) and may be purchased by calling the box office at (508) 432-2002 or by visiting capecodtheatrecompany.org.
