Boston Center for the Arts and Company One Theatre announce the BCA PlayLab Closing Celebration on Sunday, June 21 at 5PM at the Boston Center for the Arts, Plaza Theatre. This event is free and open to the public.

This six week playwrighting intensive concludes with an evening of performance and discussion. Excerpts of work by BCA PlayLab's XX Fellows Elizabeth Addison and Liana Asim will be performed, followed by an exciting panel discussion on the arts, community, and innovation featuring: Boston's Chief of Arts and Culture, Julie Burros; BCA PlayLab artists Kirsten Greenidge and Obehi Janice.

We're excited to have these talented writers on our campus and to give them a place to call their artistic home," said Veronique Le Melle, President and CEO Boston Center for the Arts.

Each class features a roster of locally and nationally recognized playwrights and artistic leaders ready to answer questions and give professional advice. Participating professionals include: Kirsten Greenidge (Luck of the Irish; Splendor); Kristoffer Diaz (The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity); Melinda Lopez (Sonia Flew; Becoming Cuba); Beth Blickers (Agent, Abrams Artists NYC); Rebecca Frank (arts lawyer and rights specialist); Julie Felise Dubiner (American Revolutions Commissioning Program, Oregon Shakespeare Festival); Kelly Miller (20th Century Fox, South Coast Rep; Kilroys member); and Anne Morgan (Literary Manager, Eugene O'Neill Theater Center).

"Thanks to the BCA, the PlayLab program has been a central component of Company One's new play development programming. We've taken three PlayLab projects to full production on our own stages: Hookman by Lauren D. Yee, Splendor by Kirsten Greenidge, and Astro Boy... by Natsu Onoda Power. Three more plays have moved onto full production elsewhere: The Old Ship of Zion by Natalia Naman, Smart People by Lydia R. Diamond, and, most recently, Obehi Janice's Fufu & Oreos. This year we're excited to expand membership of the program, and to bring more local writers into conversation about creating stories that mirror the rich diversity of our city," said Ilana Brownstein, Director of New Work Company One Theatre.
