Kier Byrnes, who was director of operations and event management at Northeastern University since 2009, was named director of Boston College's E. Paul Robsham, Jr. Theater Arts Center, BC's Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs announced.
Byrnes, who joined the University on August 3, succeeds longtime director Howard Enoch, who retired in May.
"We are very excited to have Kier Byrnes join the Boston College community in this important role as director of the Robsham Theater Arts Center," said Thomas A. Mogan, BC associate vice president and dean of students.
"Kier has an extensive background in theater operations and events management which will serve him well in his new role. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated his commitment to student formation through the development of opportunities for students to showcase their talents as well as providing them valuable training in leadership in the arts," Mogan said.
"We look forward to the leadership he will provide for this critical area of student and community engagement."
Prior to his latest role at Northeastern, Byrnes directed operations at the university's Blackman Theater Complex and the Fenway Center, where he brought a 400-person capacity performance center online and oversaw its use and development.
"I'm very excited about this opportunity to be part of the Student Affairs team at Boston College," said Byrnes. "The strong commitment to student development and the Jesuit mission is inspiring. Having attended a Jesuit school myself and dedicated the majority of my career to student affairs, I am truly grateful for this opportunity."
Byrne earned a bachelor's degree at the College of the Holy Cross, and went on to complete both an M.B.A. with a marketing specialization and a doctoral degree in law and policy at Northeastern University.
As the center of theater production on campus, the Robsham Theater Arts Center is BC's venue for theatrical, musical, cultural and dance performances, in addition to academic, professional and University events. Byrnes will be responsible for all activity associated with the theater, and in collaboration with staff, will develop long and short-term goals in keeping with those of the Division of Student Affairs.
