Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater proudly presents a film and panel discussion, Art and Heart: The World of Isaiah Sheffer Tuesday, August 30, at 6:30pm. The discussion, moderated by WCAI's Mindy Todd, includes Isaiah's wife and executive producer of the film, Ethel Sheffer; creative consultant and Isaiah's daughter, Susannah Sheffer; and the film's executive producer, Gina Leonetti Boonshoft.
Art and Heart: The World of Isaiah Sheffer is the celebration of a beloved cultural figure in New York City. Sheffer's life and work is shared lovingly via intercuts of archival material, interviews with friends and colleagues, and stage performances. "His voice was like having warm butterscotch poured over your head," recalls Stephen Colbert. Leonard Nimoy remembers Isaiah as "endlessly creative." Jane Curtin thought "he was so much fun." Isaiah Sheffer had a unique wit and humor that suffused everything he did. "His ebullient personality shines through," said the Hollywood Reporter's review of the film.
Isaiah Sheffer (1935-2012) was a writer, director, cultural entrepreneur, and impresario. He was co-founder of Symphony Space in New York City, served as the organization's Artistic Director until 2010 and Founding Artistic Director thereafter, and was widely known as the host of the radio series Selected Shorts: A Celebration of the Short Story.
Mindy Todd is the managing director of editorial as well as the host and producer of The Point on WCAI. In addition to her roles at WCAI, Todd is also involved in the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's Sea Grant Marine Outreach Guidance Group, Marine Biological Laboratories Falmouth Forum Fundraising Committee, NOAH Telethon Steering Committee, the Falmouth Fund, the Turkey Land Cove Foundation on Martha's Vineyard, and is a member of the board of directors at The ARC of Cape Cod.
