This weekend, members of various state jurisdictions of Prince Hall Freemasons as well as the general public will be treated to a new play "Ask and It Shall Be Given" the 3rd play in the "Among Brothers" trilogy, written by Mwalim *7) and Directed by Naheem Garcia.
The trilogy depicts the first 19 years of Prince Hall, African Lodge and his efforts to carve a place for Black people within the social, political and economic framework of the proposed new government being formed by the Continental Congress. The first play in the trilogy, "Seek and Ye Shall find" was premiered in April of 2008; the second play, "Knock and It Shall Open" premiered in 2010.
Mwalim, a member of the order since 2003, was first approached to write the plays in 2007 by the then Grand Master of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Massachusetts and the plays were so well received they have become a crowning jewel in the bi- annual ceremony. The play premieres Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 3 PM at the William E. Reed Auditorium, 24 Washington St, Dorchester, MA 02121. The performance is free and open to the public. African Lodge 459 is the original lodge of the Prince Hall branch of Freemasonry, chartered in 1784 by the Grand Lodge of England after lodges in the United States refused to admit Black members. The lodge is reopened every two years at a weekend long event in Boston, attended by Prince Hall Masons from all over the world.Videos
