AN ACT OF GOD Opens In Wellfleet July 25

Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater presents David Javerbaum's comedy An Act of God, running July 25 - August 17. Directed by Daisy Walker, An Act of God stars Lynnette R. Freeman as God, Alexandra Lemus as The Archangel Gabriel, and David Meyers as The Archangel Michael. Performances are at 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays, June 29 - July 20. Two preview performances, July 25 and 26, begin at 7:30 p.m.

An Act of God is a 90 minute conversation in which God reveals the mysteries of the Bible and answers some of the greatest existential questions to plague mankind. Appearing live on stage and flanked by her ever-faithful archangels, the Supreme Being gifts her mortals with an entirely new set of Ten Commandments in this heavenly evening of comedy.

David Javerbaum is an American comedy writer and former Executive Producer of Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - work that earned him 11 Emmys, two additional Emmy nominations, two Peabody Awards, and Television Critics Awards for both Best Comedy and Best News Show. He is one of the primary authors of the show's textbook parody America (The Book), which sold over 2.5 million copies and spent a year on The New York Times Bestseller List (including 15 weeks at #1), and the book's sequel, Earth: A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race. He was also Emmy-nominated for his work as a writer for The Late Show with David Letterman, wrote for the 2006 Academy Awards, and spent three years writing for the satirical newspaper and website The Onion, conceiving its New York Times #1 bestseller Our Dumb Century. His first book as sole author, What to Expect When You're Expected, was published by Random House in 2009, followed by The Last Testament: A Memoir by God, published by Simon & Schuster. His affiliated Twitter account, @TheTweetOfGod, has over 1 million followers.

Lynnette R. Freeman is a Jamaican-American actress, dancer, writer, and teaching artist, raised in East Cleveland, OH. Brown/Trinity MFA ; Member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, and The League of Professional Theatre Women. She has performed in theaters all over the US. Favorite previous roles have included Lydia Namandu in Human Rites, Letitia in On The Outs, Ruth in A Raisin in the Sun, Reheema Abu-Salaam in In A Daughter's Eyes, Jenny/ Marge in Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play, Esther Mills in Intimate Apparel and Pretty Mbane in The Dangerous House of Pretty Mbane, 48 Hours in Harlem, and The Fire This Time Festival. She believes in the divine healing power and transformative work of story telling.

Alexandra Lemus is a New York City based actor born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She writes, acts and produces with Facebook comedy sketch group In the Moment. David Meyers is thrilled to return to the Outer Cape, having previously appeared in Red, also directed by Daisy Walker. Recent credits include the New Jersey premiere of Bad Jews, FOX's LA to Vegas, Wild Nights with Emily starring Molly Shannon, a feature film for Lifetime, and commercial projects for Apple and Hennessy. David's play We Will Not Be Silent received its World Premiere last year, and will be produced across the country this season, including at Boston's New Rep from October to November.

Dates of note: Pay WHAT You Want on the first Wednesday (preview); Opening Night is Friday, July 27; playmaker talkbacks follow selected Thursday performances. Performances are at 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays-Saturdays, except the two previews on July 25 and 26, which start at 7:30 p.m. Student and senior discounts are available.
