Greater Boston Stage Company continues its 18th Season with the off-beat comedy Alligator Road by Callie Kimball, the inaugural play of the Don Fulton New Play Project. Directed by Weylin Symes, performances run October 12 - 29, 2017. The Press Opening is Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 3:00pm.

Newly widowed Kathy hasn't been herself lately... Not only did she yarn bomb the family hardware store, she also gave it away to a complete stranger - and her daughter wants it back. This brand-new play unravels notions of family, community and race in a humorous and heartfelt way. "Alligator Road is a perfect example of a play that couldn't have been written at any other time and speaks to the world around us right now. Playwright Callie Kimball has explored questions of what we owe our family, our society and our fellow citizens in a fresh, funny and thoroughly contemporary fashion," says Symes.

The Alligator Road cast features Avery Bargar (Scott), Brianne Beatrice* (Kathy), Sarah Bendell^ (Candace), and Victoria George (Lavinia).

The Don Fulton New Play Project is Greater Boston Stage Company's commitment to produce a World Premiere play each year as part of the Mainstage series. Named after the donor whose major philanthropic commitment made it possible, the project launches with Alligator Road. Shares Symes, "Theatre is a living art form and we want to be a part of the active process of bringing new theatre into the world to make sure this art form continues to thrive and to speak to and reflect current society. If Theatre's job is to reflect, and be in conversation with, the world around us, we need new plays to help do this."

For the set for Alligator Road, Scenic Designer Katheryn Monthei includes pieces yarn bombed by a local knitting group, the Melrose Yarn Bombers. This group convened in early June and began knitting and crocheting covers for items being sold at the family hardware store such as shovels, hammers, saws, brooms, paint cans, and much more. In addition to Monthei, the design team is comprised of Lighting Designer Anthony Phelps, Costume Designer Stephen Lamonica^, Sound Designer Elizabeth Cahill, and Props Master Sarah Elizabeth Bedard.
