ACOUSTICAELECTRONICA, Boston's Best Immersive Show, Is Back

With sold out performances, ToUch Performance Art's immersive dance-theater experience, AcousticaElectronica returns to Boston for two nights (March 2nd and April 6th, 2018). The show will appear at American Repertory Theatre's OBERON, it's Boston home since 2011. It is a 360 degree spectacle for all five-senses, blending dance, live and electronic music, theatre and circus arts. Performers interact with and perform amongst the audience with improvised fluidity; no two shows are ever the same. AcousticaElectronica combines immersive storytelling with the infectious energy of a nightclub, bringing the audience an extraordinarily unique experience.

However, the show is not just a party. AcousticaElectronica's cast comprises itself of world-class artists who have crafted a meaningful story for the audience members who seek a deeper meaning. The show's story resurrects some of art history's most intriguing ghosts - Dorian Gray, Carmen, Pierrot Lunaire, Odette the Swan, the "Conductor" -- and pulls them into the present. Here, they struggle to discover who they were and what they are to become. Can they survive? Can they break from tradition and reinvent themselves, while still honoring where they came from and who they truly are?

The characters in AcousticaElectronica are a fantastical carnival, but beyond that, they each share in their performance something everyone in attendance can relate to. Strip away the grandeur of performance, they reveal beating hearts: and that they are challenged by society's social and gender-role related boundaries. For example, the character Carmen, as per her operatic storyline, faces sexism, and violence: as a woman who defied the confines of what a "woman should be," she winds up betrayed and killed. Our Carmen explores a modern look at the challenges of being a woman in the performing arts, and in our contemporary world in general.

AcousticaElectronica debuted at the Boston TOGETHER festival in April of 2011 before beginning a run at OBERON in 2012, and becoming Artists in Residence in 2013. Since then, ToUch has brought AcousticaElectronica to New York City to perform at Le Poisson Rouge, Santos Party House, and DROM.
