The Beaux' Stratagem is a comic
'tale of conquest turns a small English town on its ear.
Two young rakes, Aimwell and Archer, are down on their luck and scheme
to entrap a woman of fortune into marriage. While aiming for their
goal, they inadvertently rescue a damsel in marital distress, outwit
the oafish innkeeper, foil a robbery plot and stumble upon more than
they expect: Love." explains a recent press release. "Bad
title, great play. A title that sounds as if the play will be
'algebra-on-stage' is as easy to follow as 1-2-3," says director Ed
Shea. "Farquhar has a unique, comic genius and like all the
greats - Molière, Shakespeare - can travel from the sacred to the
profane in a nanosecond with dexterity, precision, eloquence and a
delightfully bawdy flair."
The Beaux' Stratagem runs from July 2 - July 26. There is no performance on Friday, July 4.
Performances are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the 2nd Story Theatre Box Office located at 28
Market St., Warren, RI. or by calling 401-247-4200.
