The original 1959 Broadway production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, a Grammy Award for Best Show Album, and was Rodgers and Hammerstein's biggest success. The 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria won five Oscars, including Best Picture, and remains one of the most popular movies of all time.The Sound of Music contains a treasure trove of memorable tunes, including, Climb Every Mountain, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Do Re Mi, My Favorite Things, and the iconic title number, The Sound of Music. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
