The Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts announced the installation of a NanoLumens large-format, 4mm LED digital display for its lobby. The new display is six feet tall by eleven feet wide and will complement the existing lobby décor, while adding a subtle, yet modern, technological design element. It will be used to display Center information in a dynamic and flexible way prior to shows, during intermission and as patrons exit. Content may include upcoming show promotions, artist video content, campus-wide University events, student and faculty visual art, images of Boise's picturesque landscape and other important show related information. It will also display the current date and time to help ensure that patrons take their seats prior to show time. A high definition camera in the theatre will provide a closed-circuit, live feed of the show to artists backstage and to the lobby display so that patrons arriving after curtain time can watch the show until they are allowed to enter the theatre auditorium.
"The NanoLumen's product is unique in the LED digital display market and this marks their first installation in Idaho and at a true performing arts center," said Morrison Center Executive Director, James Patrick. "It is not only designed and assembled in the U.S. A., but is also ultra-lightweight, slim and provides vibrant, high resolution images from all viewing angles. The product is durable and will have a long lifespan. It is highly energy efficient too-drawing as little energy as a household appliance. This new addition to the Velma V. Morrison Center lobby is more than a marketing tool, it is transformative-it will provide a digital canvas, communicating our mission to the Boise community." The display was funded in full by the Morrison Center Endowment Foundation, Inc. and is part of the Center's ongoing efforts, in collaboration with University leadership, to ensure that the Center remains Idaho's premier performing art center.
"NanoLumens is proud to work with Boise State University and the Morrison Center to provide a state-of-the-art digital canvas to engage their students, faculty, and visitors," said Nanolumens' CEO Rick Cope. "As the premier performing arts facility in Idaho, showcasing their commitment to excellence in all that they do, The Morrison Center is a perfect match for NanoLumens. We have enjoyed working on this project and look forward to working with them on large-format LED display projects again in the future." The sign was installed under the supervision of NanoLumens technicians by Superior Signs & Screenprinting located in Caldwell, Idaho. Wiring and electrical work was done by two Boise-based companies, Quality Electric and Neurilink LLC.
Other recent capital improvements to the Morrison Center include the installation of a flexible curtain system (masking off the balcony to provide a more intimate venue alternative for select offerings), the installation of scanner technology (in lieu of tearing paper tickets) and the installation of campus-wide geo-thermo upgrades, as well as a new, energy-efficient HVAC/Chiller System for the purpose of heating and cooling.
