On Sunday, March 11, the first anniversary of the great Japanese earthquake, Theater Communications Group is organizing performance events nationwide to raise funds for
the Japan Playwrights Association to help the Japanese theater community affected by the disaster. The collective event is called: SHINSAI: THEATERS FOR JAPAN.

Several Japanese playwrights have written short pieces and American artists, including Edward Albee, Philip Kan Gotanda, Richard Greenberg, John Guare, Naomi Iizuka, Tony Kushner, Suzan-Lori Parks, Doug Wright, John Kander, Fred Ebb and Stephen Sondheim, have written or donated short sections of their work to be performed royalty free. Local artists nationwide are also creating their own pieces (theater, non-theater, installation) as part of the event.

BCT is the local home for SHINSAI and will host a variety of pieces created or performed by local artists of all disciplines, including actors, dancers, musicians, painters, etc. Visitors will be able to explore the BCT facilities at 854 Fulton Street to discover art installed or being performed in surprising places. Resident sound designer Peter John Still is curating BCT’s participation in the event. The event is free and open to the public from 6:00pm-9:00pm Sunday March 11. For further information, visit www.bctheater.org.

Founded in 1997, BCT creates, produces, and presents vibrant and dynamic professional theater that illuminates enduring themes while exploring contemporary issues and ideas
