The Napa Valley Opera House (1030 Main St., Napa) present several musical options as well as a comedy competition during the months of August and September. Tickets and other information can be found at the NVOH website at http://www.nvoh.org/.

On Friday, August 13th at 8PM, NVOH presents "We Live Here: Celebrating Music Made in Napa" Tickets are $20. "We Live Here" is an inspired evening of song and instrumental music featuring local passion, deep roots and universal reach. This is go-local music right from the source, eclectic and uplifting. With powerful, acclaimed vocals and instrumentals, The Juliane Band performs feel-good Americana and moving originals with voice, guitar, mandolin, accordion and percussion; The Napa Valley Barbershop Chorus unites the voices of men across generations in beautiful, traditional barbershop harmony perfected over decades; the Threshold Choir blends women's voices in an emerging genre of sweetly intimate songs to comfort those in Hospice care; while Rob Sherman & Friends step creatively outside American tradition to play African-inspired originals on guitar and cello, composed by Rob Sherman.

George Kahumoku and the Master os Hawaiian Music perform on Saturday, September 4th at 8PM. Tickets are $35 and $40. Four Grammy-winning artists come together for one amazing evening. The performance features George Kahumoku, Jr. and Dennis Kamakahi, both on slack key guitar and vocals; Uncle Richard Ho'opi'i on ukulele and vocals; and Bobby Ingano on slide steel guitar.

To continue with more sounds of the ukulele, the 2010 Wine Country Ukulele Festival Kick-Off is on Friday, September 10th at 8PM. Tickets are $25. The Wine Country Ukulele Festival, now in its third year, is rapidly becoming the premier ukulele festival in the nation. It all begins with a performance by virtuoso James Hill and friends, fellow Canadian Ralph Shaw, Queen of the Blues Del Rey, Kimo Hussey and Victoria Vox.

The San Franscisco International Comedy Competition takes place on Friday, September 17th with Round One and on Friday, September 24th with Round Two. Time for both nights is 7PM. Tickets are $25 and $30. May contain adult material and situations.

Comedian Mark Pitta hosts this quick-fire night of hilarity as 15 different contestants perform for 15 minutes each in the hope of moving on in another round of the San Francisco International Comedy Competition, an event that has been credited with discovering the likes of Dana Carvey, Ellen Degeneres and Robin Williams.

Host Mark Pitta made a name for himself on the Bay Area comedy scene in the 1980s and has since headlined numerous comedy shows, opened for musicians like Smokey Robinson and Celine Dion, appeared on television as an actor and host, and currently runs a weekly comedy showcase in Mill Valley.

On Sunday, September 19th, Straight No Chaser perform at NVOH. The performance is at 7PM with tickets at $35 and $40. For $65, patrons may attend the Ten Voices and a Duet Pre-Party at 5PM before going to the Straight No Chaser afterward.

Returning to the Opera House after 2009's hugely popular performance, the ten gentlemen of Straight No Chaser have since exploded on the scene. They've left legions of fans wanting more in the wake of countless sold-out performances and are spending the summer in residence at Harrah's Casino in Atlantic City. The band's new album, With a Twist, has received rave reviews and a recent PBS special has propelled the guys to new heights. Don't miss the only Bay Area stop on their Fall tour!

NVOH is teaming up with Cole's Chop House and Devotion Vodka for a special pre-show party in the Opera House Plaza, featuring the signature "Opera House Duet" cocktail, concocted by Cole's Chop House bartenders. Guests will sip the melodic blend of Devotion Vodka and elderflower liquor, while enjoying light bites provided by Cole's Chop House along with the amazing voices of singing sensation Straight No Chaser, who will perform a few songs from their full show that follows.

The Napa Valley Opera House is a non-profit performing arts organization located in the heart of downtown Napa and is a national historic landmark originally constructed in 1879. NVOH restored its intimate second-floor, 500-seat Margrit Biever Mondavi Theatre in 2002 after 30 years of planning. Patrons experience an eclectic array of performing arts including theatre, dance, comedy, jazz, blues, world music, and family programming in a world-class setting.
