CYT-North Idaho is busy readying its fall offering, Seussical, opening at the S.A. Kroc Community Theater (1765 W. Golf Course Road in Coeur d'Alene). The full scale musical runs November 7 - 16. This mash-up of several of Dr. Seuss' beloved stories (Horton Hears A Who and Horton Hatches an Egg) is penned by the Tony award winning team of Ahrens & Flaherty.
CYT-North Idaho is a theater arts training program offering classes and a chance to perform in their full scale musicals three times a year. The graduates of CYT-NI often return their time and their talents, giving back to a program they love. The first alumness of CYT-NI is no exception. Annette Steiner Nolting graduated five years ago. Since then, she has served as the Production Team for Makeup & Hair, taught classes, worked backstage, and choreographed camps and shows. In her position on CYT-NI Production Team, Annette routinely designs the makeup, trains the cast and parent volunteers, as well as the students who vie for a position on the production crew.
Annette's work in Seussical is exceptional. In this production, Seuss' world is made up of jungle creatures and the famous Whos from Whoville. Annette, following the vision of the Director, was tasked to create makeup that didn't cover or mask the young actors' own personalities. The designs are fun, fresh, and a "blast" for the young actors to perform in.
Don't miss Annette's designs (and the other beautiful production elements) in this re-telling of many of Dr. Seuss' favorite stories, cleverly crossed and mixed into one fabulous production. Works in progress are highlighted below.
