Boise Contemporary Theater brings the third show of its 16|17 Season to the stage beginning this weekend, Brian Quijada's must-see Jeff Award-winning, Latin-pulsing, hip-hop driven one-man hit, Where Did We Sit on the Bus?, fresh from sold-out shows in Chicago and New York City.
The Chicago Sun-Times called Quijada's show, "An explosion of energy, comic verve, playful sexiness, raw emotion, and irresistible storytelling." Written by Quijada and directed by Chay Yew, "Bus" won two prestigious Chicago-based Jeff Awards last year, including Best Solo Performance and Best Sound Design, and was also nominated for Best New Play and Lighting Design.
During a third-grade lesson on the Civil Rights movement and Rosa Parks, a Latino boy raises his hand to ask, "Where did we sit on the bus?" and his teacher can't answer the question. This thrilling autobiographical project infuses Latin rhythms with rap, hip-hop, spoken word, live looping, and dynamic video projections into a one-of-a-kind experience that will get patrons moving in their seats and hearts.
"We are beyond elated to have Brian back with us to grace our stage once again," said BCT Founding Artistic Director Matthew Cameron Clark. Mr. Quijada last appeared in No More Sad Things during the BCT 15|16 Season.
"This time we get Brian solo with his very exciting show that took Chicago by storm last year, and just wrapped up in New York," continued Clark. "Having (director) Chay and Brian here this week to get the show on its feet on the BCT stage is thrilling, to say the least, and we expect Boise to fall in love with Brian all over again, and particularly his remarkable, totally original, totally enjoyable show."
