Boise Contemporary Theater continues its 2016 5X5 Reading Series on Monday, April 4 at 7 pm, with a play called IN VIVO by inaugural BCT River Prize Fellow, Eric Coble. Coble is also the playwright of the final play of the BCT 20th Season, the World Premiere of Margin of Error (Or, The Unassailable Wisdom of the Mouse and the Scorpion), which runs April 13 - May 7.
IN VIVO takes place in Dove Creek, Colorado, where folks live lonely, separate lives: Phyllis manages a bank by day, cares for her cats by night; Earl butchers meat at the local grocery, numb to the world around him; and Meaghan is partying her senior year of high school away. But after a tragedy devastates the small town, the Mysteries begin - improbable pregnancies, angelic visitations, hearts literally growing with feeling like the Grinch's. Phyllis, Meaghan and Earl find themselves bound together as the Mysteries herald a cataclysmic event that will change their lives. But are they preparing for a miracle or succumbing to madness? From esteemed playwright and River Prize Fellow Eric Coble comes a riveting exploration of faith and community in small-town America.
It is the 21st annual BCT 5X5 Reading Series this year. The series is designed to introduce local audiences to contemporary stories that are compelling, relevant and timely, and that help us all imagine something new. Often, these stories are considered for a future Mainstage production at BCT. Audiences hear the stories read live by professional and emerging actors, and are then invited to share in a discussion with the actors and director, and when possible, the playwright.
IN VIVO is the fourth of five readings this season. The final reading takes place on May 2, 2016. All readings take place on Monday evenings at 7 pm on the Boise Contemporary Theater Mainstage. Tickets are $12 for single seats, and $8 for students with valid ID, and can be purchased online at www.BCTheater.org /readings/5x5_2015, or directly through the BCT Box Office by calling (208) 331-9224 x205, or by visiting the theater at 854 Fulton Street in downtown Boise. BCT Box Office hours are Monday through Friday 10 am to 2 pm, and two hours prior to each performance.
