Boise Contemporary Theater will open their annual 5X5 Reading Series on January 6, 2014 with RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN by Gina Gionfriddo. Four women. Three generations. Too many martinis. One fresh comedy about the same-old-40-something dilemnas: women versus men, marriage versus career, internet porn, and the life not lived.

A long tradition in theater, the 5X5 Reading Series allows the audience, actors, directors and producers to experience the language of the playwright and assess each play's potential for future production. Listen to some of your favorite actors bring five of the best new plays in the country to life. Afterwards, participate in a discussion with the actors, directors and sometimes playwrights to complete your evening. Each Reading is performed ONE NIGHT ONLY!

Boise Contemporary Theater is a professional regional theater company dedicated to premiering and presenting the best new ideas in theater as interpreted by today's leading playwrights. Call 208-331-9224 ext205 or visit BCTheater.org for additional ticketing, play or season information.

But Frank desperately misses the only true friend he ever had; and so he returns, intent on upending Sam and Laura's cozy world.

By Lucas Hnath

Tonight Walt is going to read you a screenplay he wrote. It's about his last days on earth. It's about a city he's going to build that's going change the world. And it's about his brother. It's about everyone who loves him so much, and it's about how sad they're going to be when he's gone. Right? I mean, how can they live without him? How can anyone live without him?

SLOWGIRL

By Greg Pierce

When his troubled niece, Becky, shows up at his isolated home in the Costa Rican jungle, Sterling finds his carefully crafted reclusion going to pieces. Becky is pure, unfiltered teenager: insubordinate, invasive, bored, and-as Sterling discovers-deeply traumatized by an accident involving a schoolmate back home. Sterling, who's basically sworn off people and the world, doesn't want to get involved, but Becky's bleak circumstances soon force Sterling to make a life-altering decision.
