On Monday February 13, 2012 at 7pm, Boise Contemporary Theater will present the second reading of BCT's 2012 5X5 Reading Series.
About the show: "THE NORTH POOL, is the story of Khadim, a Syrian-born student in a large U.S. high school. Called into the vice principal's office to discuss recent absences, he soon becomes caught in a web of lies about crimes he may (or may not) have committed. The psychological thriller is an incredibly timely character study about racial, cultural and gender profiling in America, using current affairs as an allegory to ultimately reach an emotional truth. Playwright Rajiv Joseph seamlessly blends social commentary into a suspenseful cat-and-mouse game that plays out in front of the audience in real time."
About the artist: "Rajiv Joseph has already made quite a mark on the American theater with many awards to show for his work. He was named a 2010 USA Rockefeller Fellow by United States Artists, won the Whiting Writers' Award, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize."
A long tradition in theater, the 5X5 Reading Series allows the audience, actors, directors and producers to experience the language of the playwright and assess each play's potential for future production. Listen to some of your favorite actors bring five of the best new plays in the country to life. Afterwards, participate in a discussion with the actors, directors and sometimes the playwrights to complete your evening. Each reading is performed one night only!
