Idaho Shakespeare Festival's (ISF) final show of the season is STEEL MAGNOLIAS by Robert Harling and directed by Sari Ketter. This is a great show to go into the fall with when life becomes busy with school starting and work getting down to business with the end of the fiscal year, that time of year where you start to not pay attention around you. STEEL MAGNOLIAS makes you realize you have to take time to appreciate the people around you and the friendships you make.

I think it's great that Boise has professional theatre available to them year round. The level of talent these actors have is so wonderful to watch onstage. The wit in the script is well served by timing and ease with which the lines are delivered; each one is handed to the audience to savour the language and humor without being force fed.

The set was a fun blend of teals and pinks that brought a sense of nostalgia for the 1980's style (my teenage years were spent in the 1980's). It gave the feel for the salon attached to the home and built on a budget yet still achieving the feel of a day spa.

I would bet though, the department that had the most fun was the hair and wardrobe department. Being able to go through the hairstyles of the 1980s - 1990s alone would be fun! Remember all the White Rain and Aquanet? Then the costumes from the mini skirts to the capris.

This was a fun show to just go and enjoy the night. The weather is perfect this time of year (as in the Spring), the company is enjoyable (hopefully, since they came with you) and the play has some sadness, but for the most part it is a feel-good story of love and friendship.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS will continue through September 28. To see show times and dates and purchase tickets, click here.
