TRADITIONS OF CHRISTMAS has returned to the Treasure Valley for the second year. Laura Little Theatricals produces this show as a Radio City Music Hall style show. There is dancing, singing, and over 400 costumes.
A traditional kickline of dancers, Christmas couples, a chorus and kids chorus, take you through the show with favorite holiday songs, an Armed Forces Salute and ends with the Nativity, complete with a live donkey.
With all that it has to offer, TRADITIONS OF CHRISTMAS falls short of entertainment that I will want to see year after year. The costumes are great, the dancing is better than last year, but the singing isn't what one would expect with a now $34 ticket, which is super steep for this area.
There are some standouts in the cast, the kids group has Brianna Ellis, whose smile and stage presence is one you want to watch. However, unlike last year, you only see the kids for about 3 minutes in the whole show.
A soloist, Tiger Ashanti, sang I'll be Home For Christmas so beautifully, but I am sad to learn that he isn't from the Treasure Valley.Mr Ashanti had been brought down from Coeur d'Alene for this production.
The best part of the show was the Nativity scene at the end. Costumes, again, were beautiful. Even the singing was gorgeous at this point. However, if you listen closely, you can hear that 50% of the volume of voices are coming through with the recorded track.
I can only say that there is something wrong with the producing of this show as I personally know many of the members of the cast and crew. They are quite talented performers and I am sorry to say that this show does not showcase them in a good light.
TRADITIONS OF CHRISTMAS runs December 21, 22 and 23rd with a special 11am matinee on December 23rd. Tickets are $34 and can be purchased at www.TraditionsofChristmasNW.com or by calling the box office at 208-442-3232
