Multiple award-winning playwright Jen Silverman closes Boise Contemporary Theater's record-breaking and best-selling 22nd season with her funny new drama, The Roommate. The one-act, two-hander begins previews April 11 and opens April 14 under the direction of BCT Associate Artist Tracy Sunderland.

In this hilarious and poignant piece, Denise Simone (The Clean House) returns to BCT as Sharon. New York-based Donna Jean Fogel, making her first appearance at BCT as Robyn, will join her. Sunderland is incredibly excited to work with two stellar actors on this new and provocative script. She says "I am really happy to be working on a show that features kick-ass women in their fifties, people who are often 'invisible' underrepresented in our culture."

Ms. Sunderland will be joined by: BCT resident stage manager, Sarah Kelso; assistant stage manager, Elizabeth Rathbone; scenic designer, Sue Latta; lighting designer, Deborah Hartwell; sound designer, Laura Sunderlin; costume designer, Hannah Read Newbill; and Propsmaster/Scenic Painter Angi Grow.

About the play:

The Roommate is an absorbing comedy of self-discovery. Empty-nested and alone in her Midwestern home, Sharon takes on a roommate, Robyn, who has just arrived from New York City. Before she has even unpacked, Robyn challenges everything about Sharon's way of life. Book clubs, 80's pop music and the occasional shared toke complicate their unlikely but enduring relationship, which ultimately ventures into dangerous territory. Jen Silverman's new play celebrates the unexpected re-inventions and challenges that we all face later in our lives.
