Aspire Community Theatre Announces SWEET CHARITY Image

The second production in Aspire Community Theatre's 2017-2018 season is SWEET CHARITY.

Inspired by Federico Fellini's Nights of Cabiria, SWEET CHARITY explores the turbulent love life of Charity Hope Valentine, a hopelessly romantic but comically unfortunate dance hall hostess in New York City. Many will remember the 1969 movie made famous by Shirley MacLaine, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Ricardo Montalban. Directed by Director/Choreographer Bob Fosse, the movie was nominated for three Academy Awards. The Broadway productions won the 1965-66 Tony Award for Choreographer and 4 Tony Awards (1985-86) for Revival, Costume Designer, Featured Actor and Featured Actress.

With a tuneful, groovy, mid-1960's score by Cy Coleman, sparkling lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and a hilarious book by Neil Simon, SWEET CHARITY captures all the energy, humor, and heartbreak of Life in the Big City for an unfortunate but irrepressible optimist.

Musical numbers include: "Big Spender," "If My Friends Could See Me Now," "There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This," "I'm a Brass Band" and "Baby, Dream Your Dream."

29 of the areas talented performers will be sharing the Salvation Army Kroc Center stage, acting, singing and dancing! Aspire Community Theater has a live orchestra for its productions securing some of the area's finest musicians. Don't miss it!

Tickets can be purchased online at www.aspirecda.com or by visiting the Box Office at the Kroc two hours prior to performances.

Aspire Community Theatre offers a conservatory approach to theatre education, and provides something tangible to work on for the young and young-at-heart artists in our area.
