I saw Lea and was blown away but her entire performance. I have seen bootlegs of both Julie and Beanie and can tell you that I thought Julie was good and Beanie could not sing. But Kat is singing the sh-t out of this. Unreal finally someone else who can blow the roof off the theatre the way Lea did. Julie was good but she didn't blow me away vocally...Kat does that and her vibrato at the end of DROMP is killer.....finally another person who can really sing this as good as it needs to be. Love her...

I cannot get over how amazing she sounds. The Judy Garland comparisons are spot on. What I wouldn't give to be able catch this on tour and see her live.

Excerpt from the Providence Journal review

Funny Girl' tour launch is a dazzling delight in Providence. New star is a big reason why

Katerina McCrimmon – that’s a name Providence audiences won’t soon forget.

Starring in the touring production of “Funny Girl,” which concludes its run today at the Providence Performing Arts Center, McCrimmon shows such power and control as a vocalist, such depth and consistency as a character actor and such a mesmerizing stage presence that hundreds sat enthralled with her performance from beginning to end.

Add a powerhouse like McCrimmon and the entertainment factor explodes. Astonishingly, this is the petite actress’s first lead, but she shows such skill that it certainly won’t be her last.

From the slower sounds of “Who Are You Now?” launching the show to the soaring notes of such popular numbers as “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and “People,” McCrimmon’s voice is clear and rich, transitioning the ranges easily and quickly. With her consistent grasp on a Jewish Brooklyn accent, there are moments when her voice harks back to Streisand’s, and her ascent to the last note in “I’m the Greatest Star” proves breathtaking.

Hannah Shankman (Standby) announced on Instagram this morning that she went on as Fanny in Grand Rapids for the Saturday matinee on September 23, “due to an insane turn of events.”

Already?

Standby Hannah Shankman announced 3 days ago, that for the time being, she will be going on as a Fanny every Thursday.

Standby Hannah Shankman stated that she went on last Sunday. It seems that this role is too difficult to do eight times a week, especially with five performances from Friday through Sunday. Many of these touring venues have no Wednesday matinee and two performances on Sunday.

She has been going on quite regularly.  From what I can tell from social media; at least twice a week.  I think that is good.  They both seem to be wonderful in the role.. and at least people that wanted a Jewish fanny can now get one.

Around the beginning of November, Melissa Manchester injured her knee on the way to the theater and has been out of the show ever since.

From 11-3-23:

“To my fans, friends and theater-goers across the country

A few days ago on my way to the theater, I took a fall and injured my knee, which will unfortunately require surgery and time for recovery. I am heartsick to be away from my beautiful cast mates, as well as the exquisite world of FUNNY GIRL. I am sorry to disappoint those of you who were hoping to see me in this historic production. I can’t wait to return to work and rejoin our beautiful world at the earliest possible moment!

Love, xx Melissa”

Broadway standby Barbara Tirrell will play Mrs. Brice through January 14.  Someone who lives in Baltimore told me that Melissa Manchester did not do any performances on that stop of the tour.

So I noticed that Hannah has been going on quite regularly.  Is she actually scheduled a few times a week?  Who has seen her?

I finally saw Funny Girl last night (there had been two abandoned efforts to see it on Broadway last year when Lea Michele called out).

Ironically, our rush seats were in almost the same location as our August seats in New York, except we were in Row G house right, instead of house left, at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco. For $45, we got some good luck and an incredible bargain.

Katerina McCrimmon was a wonderful, winning Fanny Brice, as she did the two things an actress in that role must do. She was funny, delivering her comic lines with aplomb, and she brought the vocal goods. McCrimmon held the audience’s attention from the opening framing device, which reminded me a lot of Follies, to her spectacular finish.

Neither my wife nor I had seen Funny Girl before, not even the film, so I don’t have the history with this show - or this production - that most of you do. The much-derided second act isn’t particularly good, but it doesn’t waste much time either. Melissa Manchester does a nice job as Mrs. Brice. Stephen Lukas does what he needs to do as Nick, which is to be handsome, charming and pathetic as the script requires and play off McCrimmon. My wife, in particular, enjoyed Izaiah Montaque Harris and his excellent tapping. The ensemble was fine.

But show is about its leading lady, and McCrimmon had the audience in the palm of her hand. This was my kind of crowd. We applauded enthusiastically, but seated, for everyone else and then stood and roared for her.
