Whole Backstage Theatre has announced auditions for its production of Once On This Island April 8th, 9th, and 10th. 

Once on This Island is a highly original and theatrical adaptation of the popular fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" which garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run. The show tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death. Join us this summer for this exciting production with its catchy Caribbean style music and exhilarating dance numbers!

All parts are open for auditions. Roles include: LITTLE TI MOUNE (age range: 6-11); STORYTELLERS 2-4 (age range: 16 and up)Narrators of the show, male or female; MAMA EURALIE (age range: 30-60); TONTON JULIAN (age range: 30-60); TI MOUNE (age range: 15-25); DANIEL BEAUXHOMME (age range: 17-29); DANIEL'S SON (age range: 6-11); ARMAND (age range: 30-60); ANDREA (age range: 16-29); ASAKA (age range: 18-50); AGWE (age range: 18-45); ERZULIE (age range: 18-35); ISLAND STORYTELLERS (age range: 13 and up) Play many roles including gossipers, peasants, villagers, guests, grands homes, rain dancers, breezes, birds, frogs .

Audition dates for Once on This Island are Thursday and Friday April 8 and 9 at 6:30p.m. and Saturday April 10 at 10:00a.m. Auditions will be held at the Whole Backstage Theatre 1120 Rayburn Ave. Guntersville. Audition matrials may be found at Marshall County Libraries or at the Whole Backstage Theatre.
