The Wetumpka Depot Players will present Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Joseph is played by AACT National Best Actor Award nominee Jonathan Conner who shined as B Flat in the award winning Depot production of Second Samuel. Directed by the Depot’s Executive Director Kristy Meanor, the musical comes to life as Joseph finds out the hard way that blood is not always thicker than jealousy.
“I am thrilled to be working with an amazing group of actors and singers,” said Director Meanor. “I cut my directing teeth on this musical for the Depot twelve years ago. Once you have been involved in a production of Joseph, as a director, actor, or audience member it becomes one of those shows that stays with you. The story is torn from history, but we have managed to add a few modern touches. I am sure everyone will leave the theatre humming a tune from the show.”
Under the musical direction of Dr. Marylyn Swears, the 25 songs take the audience through dozens of musical styles ranging from country to calypso – there is even a number that will make Elvis fans scream with joy!
Meanor knows this show is also special because Joseph audiences will be the first to "test drive" the Depot’s new auditorium seats! “We are committed to providing great performances for the River Region,” said Meanor. “We purchased new lighting and sound equipment and some very comfortable seats as part of our commitment to making the community theatre experience the best it can be for our audiences.”
Performances for Joseph are April 13-15, 19-22, 26-28. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
An additional fund raising event has been added to the theatre’s season. May 11-13 The Depot Players present Broadway Our Way- A Musical Revue 32 Years in the Making! A cast of Depot veterans will celebrate some of the most memorable songs from three decades of Depot musicals.
Tickets for Joseph and Broadway Our Way are available online at www.wetumpkadepot.com or by calling 334-868-1440.
