The Wetumpka Depot Players seek support to put local community theatre in the regional spotlight. The group will travel their award winning production of The Fantasticks to Mobile, Al in March to represent the state of Alabama at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC). The nation's largest theatre convention, SETC plays hosts to festivals, workshops and auditions. "Participating at SETC is not only a great honor for the Depot Players, but it is also an investment in the continuation of our production of high quality community theatre," said Kristy Meanor, Depot executive director. "We return from festival with new ideas and a stronger company and all of that positive growth gets passed on to our patrons."

To offset the cost of traveling the show, the Depot Players will offer one last opportunity for patrons to see the show before they travel to SETC on Monday March 3 at 6:30pm. The evening, "Dinner and a Show - A Fantastick Evening" is $15.00 and includes a delicious meal and the show. The irresistible musical , featuring some of the finest music in Broadway history, tells the story of a boy, a girl, their meddling fathers and the wall that divides them. The Fantasticksbegins as a simple tale of "boy meets girl" and two over protective fathers but turns into a beautiful journey of discovery of the real meaning of love for the young lovers. "It's hard to resist The Fantasticks vintage charm: unamplified actors, effects like confetti snow and sequined rain, and a sweetly melodic score." Entertainment Weekly.

The musical took top honors last October at the state community theatre festival. Adjudicators awarded the production numerous awards including Best in Show, Best Direction (Kristy Meanor), Best Technical Direction (Tom Salter), Best Musical Direction (Marilyn Swear), Best Supporting Actors ( Patty Holley and Bill Nowell) and All Star Cast ( Lee Bridges). Additional cast and company members include Jimmy Veazey, Jeff Langham, David Brown, Tom Salter, Ed Drozdowski, Alison Rouse, Elizabeth Bowles and Mary Katherine Moore.

Tickets may be purchased by calling the Depot box office at 334.868.1440 or online at wetumpkadepot.com. The Wetumpka Depot Players theatre is located at 300 S Main Street in historic downtown Wetumpka.
