In preparation for two exciting summer programs, the Wetumpka Depot Players are making plans to provide a variety of performance related activities for both children and adult artists. Dates for an audition workshop and a summer youth program have been announced and the River Region's oldest community theatre is welcoming all to join in and play a part in the Depot summer events.
In preparation for the summer musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, the Depot will offer a workshop on April 27 at 4pm to help singers, dancers and actors prepare for auditions for the production on May 11 and 12. The workshop is designed for adults and young adults ( ages 16 and above) who seek guidance on how to prepare for a musical audition. The workshop is intended for actors who have not had audition experience and need the moral support to prepare to be a part of a musical production. The hour long workshop will include guidance on selecting 16 bars of music, instruction on cold readings and other audition tips. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas calls for a large, culturally diverse cast of young adult and adult actors, singers and dancers. "Being a part of a musical is a fantastic experience. It's really delightful to watch friendships form during a show and how we all become like a family" said Kristy Meanor, Depot executive director. "Unfortunately, a fear of auditioning often holds people back from participating. The purpose of the workshop to encourage and support those who want to give it a try!"
In addition to the audition workshop, the Depot is preparing for their annual summer youth outreach, Acting Up! The program will run June 23-29 as a half day program with six performances. Limited to only 25 participates, the program is open to children entering 3rd grade and above. Program participates will enjoy a week of theatre related activities in addition to serving as cast members for Pinkalicious, The Musical!
