Sometimes the only thing to do in the blistering heat and humidity of central Alabama it to wear less clothes. The Wetumpka Depot Players are keeping cool for their production of Tim Firth's comedy, Calendar Girls. Opening July 14 and running through July 30, the play is one of the most widely produced plays in the UK and is now making the rounds here in the US after the great success of the film of the same title.
"The play is based on a true story of a group of middle aged ladies who posed nude for a calendar," said Kristy Meanor, Depot executive director. "This show is such a celebration of courage and love. It will be an absolute joy for audiences to experience. No worry, there is no nudity in the production, but the scene where the ladies pose for the calendar is perhaps one of of the funniest scenes I have seen on stage in a long time."
"This heartfelt comedy about love, loss and enduring friendships features a wonderfully, talented cast,''" said Calendar Girls director Stephen Dubberley. "The cast features Eleanor Davis, Teri Sweeney, Brooke Killen, Hazel Jones, Cindy Smith, Marcella Willis, Gayle Sandlin, Bill Nowell, Lee Bridges.Tatum Pollock, Mariah Reilly, Katie Therkelson, and Jay Russell"
In celebration of the Calendar Girl theme, the Depot Players will be taking orders for their own calendar which will feature the dates for the 2017 season as well as unique photos from past shows. The calendar will be in support of on going building and renovation needs to the River Region's oldest community theatre. Pre orders will be accepted at all showings of the production as well as by calling the box office.
The show plays July 14,15, 21-23, 28-30 7:30pm and Sunday July 17 an 24 at 2pm. Tickets are $12/$15 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 868.1440 or wetumpkadepot.com. The Wetumpka Depot Theatre is located at 300 S Main in historic downtown Wetumpka.
