Theatre Tuscaloosa presents its third annual production of A Christmas Carol December 10-16 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

This traditional story by Charles Dickens has been adapted for the stage by award-winning playwright Romulus Linney. Like Dickens' original tale, four mysterious spirits visit Ebenezer Scrooge and take him on a journey through his life to help him find the true meaning of Christmas. This will be Theatre Tuscaloosa's third annual adaptation of the Christmas classic and is the perfect way for people of all ages to get into the holiday spirit.

The 2018 production of A Christmas Carol will have a fresh feel due to some casting changes. This year, Scrooge will be played by George Thagard, who played Marley's ghost in the two prior productions. The role of Marley is being taken over by Theatre Tuscaloosa veteran performer Andrew Smith. New to the cast is Eva Hutto who takes over the role of the Ghost of Christmas Past.

"I am very excited to be part of Theatre Tuscaloosa's A Christmas Carol," said Hutto, who is the 2018-2019 recipient of the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship. "We all run from things in our past, and the Ghost of Christmas Past confronts Scrooge by conjuring hurtful and heartfelt parts of his past. She forces Scrooge to stop running and look, of which he is deeply fearful, but ultimately he goes along with her because he knows he should."

Other returning cast members include Jake Whipple, Mac Hackney, Krishan Singh King, Crystal Lassiter, Bradley Logan, Lizabeth Whipple, Wescott Youngson, David Cordell, Grace Conner, Carol DeVelice, Zoe Lassiter, Ivan Taylor, Elizabeth Ward, Ernie Turley, Ian Akins, Charles Prosser, Paige Stroud, Avery May, Railey Sullivan, and Helen Sullivan. Newcomers include Hutto, Ellie Welbourne, Abel Welbourne, Alex Smith, and Pamela Welbourne.

The production team includes Tina Turley, director; Wheeler Kincaid, scenic and sound designer; Richard Dunham, lighting designer; Ernie Turley, musical director; Jeanette Waterman, costume and makeup designer; and Caleb Adams, stage manager.

Theatre Tuscaloosa's 2018-2019 season is supported by Shelton State Community College, the City of Tuscaloosa, Alabama State Council on the Arts, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc., and WVUA23. A Christmas Carol is sponsored by Ellis Architects.

A Christmas Carol will be presented December 10-16, 2018. This limited run will occur over the course of just one week, unlike the usual two-week run. Showtimes will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Sunday.

Tickets are $19 for adults, $17 for seniors, Shelton State employees, and members of the military, and $14 for students and children. Special rates are available in advance for groups of 10 or more. Theatre Tuscaloosa also offers gift cards. Each gift card is good for three years, comes with a free gift sleeve, and can be customized for any amount.
