The Wetumpka Depot Players are celebrating spring with Jones and Schmidt's The Fantasticks, which will open April 18 at Wetumpka's award winning community theatre. This musical tells the the story of a boy, a girl, their meddling fathers and the wall that divides them.

The Fantasticks begins as a simple tale of "boy meets girl" and two over protective fathers but turns into a beautiful journey of discovery of the real meaning of love for the young lovers.

Depot executive director Kristy Meanor is excited about the production.

"I am enjoying working on such an endearing musical that has appeal to audiences of all ages," said Meanor. "As we explore the script through the rehearsal process, I am reminded of WHY this is the longest running musical in history. It truly is timeless and charming. The Fantasticks is one of those rare shows that the whole family can enjoy together. It has something for everyone."

The cast is brought to life by a stellar ensemble of community actors. Jimmy Veazey plays the dashing El Gallo and Jeff Langham plays the Mute. The young lovers are brought to life by Patty Holley and David Brown and their doting fathers are Lee Bridges and Tom Salter. Ed Drozdowski and Bill Nowell support the rest of the cast as the "old" actors. With musical direction by Dr. Marilyn Swears and choreography by Mary Katherine Moore, the ensemble's collective 100 years of theatre experience is sure to enrich the production!

The music, moonlight and magic of The Fantasticks will take the stage April 18-20, 25-27, May 2-4 at 7:30pm and April 28 at 2pm. Tickets are available for $10 by calling the Depot box office at 334.868.1440 or online for $12 at wetumpkadepot.com. The theatre is located at 300 South Main Street in Historic Downtown Wetumpka.
