In February, the Virginia Samford Theatre Stars will perform RAGTIME: SCHOOL EDITION. Based on E.L. Doctorow's distinguished novel, Ragtime intertwines three distinct stories that poignantly illustrate history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate. The show closes Feb. 28.

The production will be directed by Roy Hudson - Alabama Teacher of the Year, 2008-2009 with music direction by Michael King.

The VST STARS (Students Take a Role at the Samford) Arts Education Program's Les Miserables: School Edition was awarded one of the "best theatre productions" of 2008. Performed by and for area high school students, the STARS initiative introduces young people to the magic of live theatre.
