Red Mountain Theatre Company presents one of the most beloved musicals of all time - Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music - July 15-August 1, 2010, at the Virginia Samford Theatre (1116 26th Street South).
The Sound of Music tells the story of sweet young Maria, who's sent off to be the governess of Captain von Trapp's seven troublesome children. Through their mutual love of music, the von Trapp family comes to admire Maria. But when the Nazis invade Austria, the whole family is forced to flee their homeland in hopes of finding freedom. With an unforgettable score that includes musical favorites like "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and "The Lonely Goatherd," The Sound of Music is the perfect family treat!The Sound of Music features Broadway veteran George Dvorsky as "Captain von Trapp" and Birmingham's Kristen Bowden Sharp as "Maria." Special Note: The Thursday, July 22, show will feature a short performance by members of the RMTC Youth Programs, along with special guests, the Rosh Ha'ayin youth performers, who are visiting from Israel through a partnership with the Birmingham Jewish Federation. The house will open at 6:30 PM and the special performance will start at 7:00 PM (July 22 only). The performance of The Sound of Music will still begin at 7:30 PM that evening. or in person as one order.
