Continuing with its 33rd season, Terrific New Theatre bursts into 2019 with a bang by staging the Alabama premiere of the five-time Tony Award-winning musical and groundbreaking Broadway hit, "Fun Home." TNT's production runs Thursday to Saturday evenings from Jan. 24-Feb. 9, with Sunday matinees on Jan. 27 and Feb. 3.

With a book and lyrics by Lisa Kron and music by Jeanine Tesori, "Fun Home" is based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel. The central figure of the musical is, in fact, a graphic novelist named Alison. When her father dies unexpectedly, she dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family's Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father's hidden desires.

Directed by David Strickland, the production stars two of Birmingham's favorite female actors and vocalists, Tam DeBolt and Kristi Tingle Higginbotham. DeBolt is also TNT's artistic director. Rounding out the cast are Jada Cato, Caleb Clark, Emma Brooke Levering, Gracie Marble, Mark Nelson, Sam Oliver, Megan Pecot and Sam Slaughter. Music direction is by Sam Tumminello, and choreography is by Tahauny Cleghorn.

"Fun Home" will perform Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. from Jan. 24-Feb. 9, 2019, with Sunday matinees on Jan. 27 and Feb. 3 at 2:30 p.m.
