About Liz Caplan Vocal Studios, LLC
Liz Caplan has been "balancing the state of the artist" for more than 25 years as a voice teacher and vocal coach in New York City, and as a guest lecturer throughout the United States and Europe. Her students are currently featured in principal roles on Broadway, national tours, off-Broadway, regionally, and as artists in the recording industry. Many have won Tony Awards, Grammy and Emmy Awards.
Some of Liz Caplan's recording artist students include Ashanti, James Blunt, Natasha Bedingfield, Lily Allen, the Darkness, The Goo Goo Dolls, Morningwood, Danielle Evin, the British sensation Girls Aloud, and The BodyRockers. Liz has served as the Production Vocal Coach for Broadway's 13, and Rock Of Ages. She is Production Vocal Supervisor for Green Day's American Idiot on Broadway. Liz worked alongside Neil Patrick Harris during the 2009 Tony's where he hosted and performed.
Liz is the vocal consultant on Wicked, Next to Normal, In the Heights and many other Broadway and off Broadway musicals.
Liz also provided on-camera musical direction for "As the World Turns" on CBS Television. She has also coached recording artists and actors in preparation for their appearances on for The Tony Awards Telecast, The Today Show, David Letterman, The Craig Kilborne Show, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O'Brien, The CBS Saturday Morning and Early Morning Shows.
Liz Caplan continues to work with many Tony and Grammy Award nominated and winning musical directors and arrangers. She consults on many projects long before they are fully realized. As a result, Liz is able to get a sense of the upcoming trends in both musical theatre and the music industry. Her students therefore benefit from a teacher who has an awareness of these new productions and their various musical styles.
Liz Caplan draws upon many diverse disciplines in her approach to teaching voice. Her innovative use of physical alignment, exercise, and nutrition help to build and maintain a healthy instrument. Yoga, breathing, and relaxation techniques, along with Alexander and Linklater philosophies, are also explored regularly. Vocal exercises, tailored to the individual student, aim to strengthen the larynx and vocal cords as well as releasing the tongue and jaw, yielding increased range and flexibility.
Her affiliations include: American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), The Drama League, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) where she has been a speaker, panelist and workshop facilitator. She is also on the faculty of the Voice Foundation in Philadelphia, PA and a member of the New York Singing Teachers' Association (NYSTA), as well as a member of the Voice and Speech Therapists Association (VASTA).
