50 years, and it's been an amazing journey! From the early days in Huntsville High School, Broadway Theatre League was brought to life by the Business & Professional Women's Club. In the beginning, it was a complete volunteer effort that delivered professional touring theatre with noted Hollywood veterans such as Joan Bennett, Dorothy Lamour, John Carradine, Imogene Coca, and John Raitt crossing the boards. Led by Louise Rodgers for more than 30 years, Broadway Theatre League became a cultural institution. Show titles of the early days included The Miracle Worker, Oliver, Camelot, Barefoot in the Park, and Fiddler on the Roof.

The loyalty of patrons carried BTL through the years and, in 1975, into a brand new home at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall. The scale of the shows blossomed in the Concert Hall to include My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Show Boat, 42nd Street, and Big River.

The 1990s brought change and the reinvention of BTL. During this decade, BTL said thank you to Louise Rodgers, established a new performance schedule with weekend performances, and ushered in the mega-musical with Les Miserables. Over the past 15 years, a newly energized BTL has emerged, with a firmly solidified place in the community.

A common theme can be seen throughout BTL's half-century history - and that is variety. All types of Broadway shows have been presented, from blockbuster musicals to obscure little plays and special once-in-a lifetime events. And through it all, our patrons have always been there for each and every show, and we could not have done it without our sponsors and wonderful volunteers.
