The Birmingham Festival Theatre will present Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek's 1987 Tony Nominated musical Quilters the weekends of November 3-19 at 8pm with a 2pm performance on the 13th.

Sandra Taylor will direct a cast that features Holly Croney Dikeman, Emily McLeod, Nancy Malone, Gaines Marsh Creager, Martha S. Summey, Cari Gisler Oliver, and Carole Armistead.

A series of short tales matched with musical numbers, the stories in QUILTERS present aspects of womanhood in frontier life-girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness, and death. Each woman's story unfolds, literally, from a piece of quilting work whose design reflects her experiences. By the play's end, these story panels combine to make one huge quilt that the characters raise high as the flag of pioneer womanhood.

The Birmingham Festival Theatre is located at 1901 1/2 11th Ave S. Tickets are $25 and $15 with a student ID with a pay what you can performance November 10 with a $10 minimum. Call (205) 933-2383 to make your reservations. Visit www.bftonline.org for more information.
