The first time I ventured to South City Theatre was for an audition, long before I started writing for BroadwayWorld. At that time the group still performed in a really small space in the middle of nowhere. As I drove further and further I wondered what I was getting myself into.
Well, I'll tell you what I was getting into! One of the best theatre experiences of my life, working with a group of talented women in an environment of creativity, true collaboration and professionalism.
South City Theatre has moved since that time to a newer, larger, easier to find location in Pelham. Although the theatre is bigger and the group performs to sellout crowds most of the time now, SCT still has that perfect blend of collaboration, creativity and professionalism in their productions.
Artistic director Sue Ellen Gerrells has been overwhelmed by the community support that Pelham has shown for SCT. The upcoming shows are sure to be appreciated by the community and anyone else who enjoys a fun night of theatre.
DESIGN FOR MURDER opens this Friday, October 7- October 15 and will also be showing at the Homewood Library on October 21 and 22.
DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW is SCT's Christmas offering. Written by the same team that brought you MAMA WON'T FLY and DIXIE SWIM CLUB, this promises to be a hilarious look at the holidays. It will run December 9-17.
OVER THE RIVER AND THRU THE WOODS will be the first show of the new year running January 27- February 4. The season continues with LOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE, the classic OUR TOWN and DOUBT.
Add in youth workshops, and acting classes, a fundraiser this month for STEEL MAGNOLIAS, which is headed to competition, and a special event July 2017, South City Theatre is a busy place to be. Join in on all that is happening by checking out www.southcitytheatre.com or call 205-621-2128.
