Another interesting space for theatre in the area is Birmingham Festival Theatre. Located over a health food store at 1901 ½ 11th Avenue South, BFT has been a mainstay of theatre in Birmingham for years.

Unlike many theatres who have been in several different spaces over their duration, BFT has been in the same place all along. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I performed in a play with them over 40 years ago and it is still fun to go to this venue and see the poster of that show framed and on the wall along with posters from most of their shows from over the years.

The 2016-17 season has a theme that connects all of their shows- All You Need Is Love. In a world that can be a little frightening, BFT wants you to remember that love is still around, just waiting on us to embrace it.

The season opened with RED HERRING and you still have one more weekend to see this funny show, running through October 15. Directed by the incomparable Jonathan Fuller, this show has made audiences laugh for several weeks already. Don't miss your chance to see RED HERRING.

I AND YOU is next up for BFT, showing November 3-26. Directed by Daniel Martin, this promises to be an intriguing production. The last two offerings for the season are STOP KISS running March 16- April 8 directed by Sandra Taylor and Beth Henley's CRIMES OF THE HEART directed by Ellise Mayor running May 4-27.

Evening performances are on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 PM, and matinees on the second and third Sundays of each run are at 2 PM. Tickets are $25 for adults with students (with valid ID) only paying $10. For more information go to www.bftonline.org or call 205-933-2383.
