Calling all actors and dancers! Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center is holding open auditions for our first original production. Opening the 2009-10 Merrimack Hall season is "Upon Their Shoulders: The Merrimack Story," written and researched by local playwright Ron Harris. The play illustrates the rich history of Huntsville through the lives of real people who labored in the city's textile mills. Dramatizing real events that occurred at Merrimack Mills and the surrounding mill village where Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center is located today, the play traces the development of child labor laws, mandatory school laws, and the socioeconomic impact on our city today.
Auditions will be held on July 18 and 19, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center. "Upon Their Shoulders: The Merrimack Story" will be performed October 15-18, 2009, under the direction of Ron Harris. There are parts for:
Two 18-25 year-old male dancers
One 35-50 year old male
Two 8-12 year old white males
Two 8-12 year old black males
Four 20-25 year old white females
Two 10-13 year old females
Callbacks will be held Monday, July 20, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. All auditions and callbacks will be held at Merrimack Hall 3320 Triana Boulevard, Huntsville, 35805.
