A modern Flemish family gathers round the dining table for the annual Christmas dinner. There are thirteen of them, including the mother?/?hostess, the priest?/?family friend, the prudish daughter, the skinhead son, the hot aunty and a musing grandfather. What they lack in conversation, they make up for in song: Morgenrood, Liefde gaf u duizend namen, Mijn Vlaanderen heb ik hartelijk lief… All these songs are from Singhet ende weset vro, a Flemish songbook from 1941 that every proud Flemish member of society had in his bookcase at the time and long afterwards. What starts out as a social get-together soon takes a turn for the worse when it becomes clear that each face around the table represents different ideologies and sensibilities. What is the sound of this Flemish heritage without like-minded singers?
