This new creative endeavour proposed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker is the fruit of a shared reflection between the choreographer and Boris Charmatz, one of the most scintillating figures in contemporary dance, based on the Chaconne of Johann Sebastian Bach’s second Partita. According to the French artist, this work is ‘a living form of architecture to which dance sometimes aspires, but knows it can never come up to the original design’. Music has always been crucial in the work of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, from the medieval ‘Ars Subtilior’, the origin of Cesena and En Atendant, to the contemporary music of Steve Reich which is the basis of her work Drumming. She has revisited this Bach composition in a duet with Boris Charmatz, for one of the much-anticipated moments of 2013.
