Nora Gubisch and Alain Altinoglu have been together, both on and off the stage, for a long time. They met at the Conservatory when they were teenagers and have continued to develop and perfect what they call their ‘breathing as one’. This artistic and musical togetherness finds expression in a programme with Ravel’s Histoires naturelles (Tales from Nature) at its core. Full of humour, these tales owe much of their appeal to the ironic tension between the down-to-earth nature of Jules Renard’s writing and the serious high-mindedness of the piano accompaniment, which is not without its charm. Alain Altinoglu, a conductor and pianist, and Nora Gubisch, a mezzo-soprano with a full-bodied warm timbre, have separately, on more than one occasion, won over the Brussels public. The two together should generate a chemistry not to be missed!
