In its annual libretto readings, the Walpurgis travelling musical theatre company headed by the soprano Judith Vindevogel always succeeds in making the classical lyrical repertoire accessible to a broader audience in an infectious manner that involves improvisation and some playful references. In 2014 it will be their ninth year : following Cosi fan tutte, Die Fledermaus, Don Giovanni, Falstaff, Turandot, Fidelio, La Bohème and Platée, they are now taking on Richard Strauss’ Daphne specially for La Monnaie. With a ten-member team of actors, singers and musicians, they strip the music from the text and give the content the chance to resonate in a new way, in an informal setting and in a playful manner. Their spontaneity and improvisation always give these libretto readings great charm and appeal. A fine way of seeing Strauss’ Daphne in a new light !
