Since 2006 the choreographer Faustin Linyekula has been a regular guest at the KVS. We are now for the fifth time making a new creation with him.
Drums and Digging starts in Obilo, the village where Faustin grew up, also the inspiration for his 2011 solo Le Cargo. The journey continues through the jungle, history and the memory and ends in Gbadolite, the residence of General Mobutu. For many generations of Zairians this city was the incarnation of the ultimate dream, but today it has been more or less emptied out by plunderers.
Drums & Digging is a journey with travelling companions, dancers, singers and actors, and with one question in mind: what has happened to our dreams? And: how do we sustain ourselves in a country that apparently has lost its own dream?
